The Marriott School's Management Minor is a useful track for acquiring necessary business concepts. The minor consists of the following courses.
Acc 200 - Principles of Accounting
Financial and managerial accounting principles. Basic accounting statements, processes, and management applications.
Econ 110 - Economic Problems and Principles
Strengths and weaknesses of markets and governments for solving problems of social organization or conflict, including policy response to inflation, unemployment, pollution, poverty, growth, etc.
Stat 221 - Principles of Statistics
Stemplots, boxplots, histograms, scatterplots; central tendency, variability; confidence intervals and hypothesis testing involving one and two means and proportions; contingency tables, regression; computer package.
Math 110, 112, or 119 - College Algebra, Calculus 1, or Intro to Calculus
1) Functions, polynomials, theory of equations, exponential and logarithmic functions, matrices, determinants, systems of linear equations, permutations, combinations, binomial theorem.
2) Differential and integral calculus: limits; continuity; the derivative and applications; extrema; the definite integral; fundamental theorem of calculus; L’Hôpital's rule.
3) Introduction to plane analytic geometry and calculus.
Bus M 300 - Financial Management
Emphasizes financial statement analysis, financial planning, sources of financing, working capital management, risk and return, and valuation.
Bus M 340 - Marketing Management
Emphasizes marketing’s role in society and the firm, marketing opportunities, the consumer market, and management of the marketing mix.
Org B 320 or Hon P 223R - Organizational Effectiveness or People and Organizations
Theories and concepts for creating effective organizations, e.g., individual, group, and organizational processes and human resource functions, including selection, compensation, and performance management.
